Leadership in Action

The Managing Directors of C&C Consulting, Matthew St John, and DJT Surfacing Ltd, Jo Salmon spent the morning visiting DJT active sites across Bedford and Cambridge, demonstrating the importance of visible and engaged leadership in supporting a strong health, safety and operational culture.

Senior leadership presence on site sends a powerful message. It reinforces the organisation's commitment to safety, quality, and professionalism, while providing valuable opportunities to engage with teams, observe working practices and recognise good performance.

It was particularly encouraging to see well-managed sites operating in challenging environments where public interaction is a key consideration. Effective management of road closures, public footpath diversions and traffic management arrangements was clearly evident, helping to ensure the safety of both the workforce and the communities affected by the works.

Equally impressive was the high standard of housekeeping, planning and safety awareness demonstrated throughout the activities observed, with clear communication of site controls and safe systems of work.

Safety leadership isn't confined to the boardroom, it's demonstrated on site, through engagement, visibility and leading by example.
